Great Game Fairs of Ireland All Ireland Game Fair Championships
The two Great Game Fairs of Ireland at Shanes and Birr have the best Clay Pigeon, Gundog, Angling and Terrier & Lurcher Competitions and Prize Funds. They are recognised by Irish Sportsmen and Public as the two premier fairs in Ireland. Thus it is fitting that they should stage the ALL Ireland Game Fair Championships These championships are designed to encourage the widest possible competition in that literally any competent shot, caster or gundog handler can win the top prize.

One of finest layouts in Ireland with a massive prize structure currently over €10,000 and still increasing. This features two 50 bird sporting layouts including the Southern Irish All Comers Game Fair Championships, a 25 bird DTL Game Fair Championship and a new Novice All Ireland Championship.

All Ireland Game Fair Championships

This year the All Ireland All Comers Game Fair Championships moved to Shanes Castle with the 2008 qualifiers from Birr meeting the 2009 qualifiers from Shanes. This year at Birr the focus is on who will be the new Southern Irish Game Fair Champion. Top prize for this competition shot over a 50 birds sporting layout over the two days is a Beretta 686E shotgun sponsored by David Brennan from Ardee Sports.

On the 50 Bird Sporting Championships, the best scores will win the daily prizes but a classification system will be in place to win the Beretta 686E with the top three scores in the following classes on each day shooting out in the final:

Class A/AA
Class B/C
Unclassified.

Southern Irish Game Fair DTL Championship

The new 25 bird DTL competition launched in 2008 was such a success that it now has championship status and a superb prize of a Fausti Stefano shotgun for the top score over two days sponsored by Tom & Niall Kirwan of Lakeland Sports.

The five top scores on each day on the 25 Bird DTL will shoot out for the Gun.

Barbour All Ireland Game Fair Novice Championships

This year at Shanes Castle saw the launch of the inaugural All Ireland Game Fair Novice Clay Pigeon Championships designed to encourage more novice or 'have a go' competitors to compete on a national basis. The first heat took place at Shanes Castle and the top four shots from that heat will meet the top four shots from the heat at Birr to decide who will be the All Ireland Game Fair Novice Champion.

Top prizes in the heat (over 2 days) will be a Tankard and Leather Cartridge bag for the winner and a leather cartridge belt for the runner up. These are sponsored by David Robinson of Firefly and Jack Pyke.

The winner overall will win a Barbour Linhope 3 in 1 coat worth £400.

There will be specially engraved tankards sponsored by Irish Countrysports and Country Life, Ireland premier country sports magazine, for all three champions.

Handsome as the top prizes are, shooters will of course have the opportunity to compete for a wide range of additional prizes including daily prizes in both competitions and these include 2 flatscreen Tvs, 4 Sony Sat Navs, Bausch & Lomb Binoculars, Bushnell Binoculars & Telescopes Sony Digital Cameras and numerous other prizes.

Cartridges will be available on the day but participants are more than welcome to use their own.
